Texas High Plains Planting Conditions – Week of May 5

Much of the region received some rain overnight and have been experiencing some cooler-than-normal temperatures.  The forecasts indicate that this will be the trend for the first half of this week, but a warming trend begins toward the end of the week sending temperatures into the 80s and 90s throughout the panhandle and southern high plains.

See the planting conditions forecasts update for the six locations:  Spearman, Panhandle, Dumas, Plainview, Lubbock, and Lamesa, TX. The trend is the same for all six: do not plant during the first part of the week; I also recommend not planting during the latter part of the week. Conditions look much better toward the weekend, especially in the southerly locations. Unless the forecast changes, early next week looks very favorable for planting cotton across the region, especially if we receive the moisture promised in the next couple of days.
